Ancient Chinese legends speak of the wonders and mysteries of water. Legend says that water, the source of all life, takes on different shapes when influenced by emotions. With love and compassion, flowing water can take on the form of beautiful, hexagonal figures reminiscent of a turtle's shell. It is from one of these legends that the 8Turtle became I Love Tibet's mascot and symbol. In China, the number eight is auspicious and the turtle is a symbol of longevity and nobility. The turtle shell, therefore, is an auspicious form for water to take when in tune with the best of humanity.
Water makes up over 70% of the human body. If we fill ourselves with love, who knows what dazzling transformations could take place within ourselves? When our hearts are filled with compassion, the best of us is brought out. It is for this reason that 8Turtle aspires to extend a hand to the children of Tibet - not only to help those in need, but to cultivate compassion in the hearts of our volunteers.
Our Transportation: 1212 Love Train. 1212 Love Train - Nonstop to Tibet!
1212- a rhythmic homophone for "I love, I love" in Chinese - is the name of our train that will take you on our travels to Tibet every year. Our 1212 Love Train represents the compassion and caring wishes of our volunteers and donators making their way to a mysterious land.
Our journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. And each and every step is necessary to reach our destination. A small donation may not seem like much to you, but combined with those of others, it can make a difference!
